Wenchi Crater Lake Loop

About this hike

Down into a volcanic crater, across the lake by boat, and up to the monastery on the island.

Wenchi sits in an old caldera three hours west of Addis, with a lake, hot springs and a monastery on an island in the middle.

We walk down the crater wall on the old mule path, cross to the island by boat, and climb back out on the far side in the afternoon.

The descent is easy; the climb out is the part people remember.
