A volcanic caldera with a lake in the bottom, hot springs at the shore and a monastery on the island. The walk down is easy. The walk out is not.
The descent
From the viewpoint the crater floor is 400 metres below you. The old mule path zigzags down and takes about ninety minutes at a comfortable pace.
Crossing the lake
Local boats take us to Kirkos monastery on the island. It is a short crossing and the water is very still in the morning.
The hot springs
On the far shore there are natural hot springs. Bring swimwear if you want to use them — most people do.
The climb out
This is the part to be honest about. Four hundred metres of ascent at altitude, in the afternoon, after a full day. It is entirely manageable, but it is not a stroll.
